The YMCA offers a full YMCA of the USA Lifeguard training course that includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPRO) and First Aid, equipment-based rescues for aquatic environments, accident prevention, and decision-making skills.
Are you are looking for a great summer job? The YMCA of the Capital Area Lifeguard program is the place to start! Through classroom activities, group discussion and hands-on practice, you’ll learn the skills you need to work as a lifeguard.
Our comprehensive YMCA Lifeguard Training course includes accident prevention, lifeguarding techniques, emergency systems, and rescue skills. Our course also includes CPR for the professional Rescuer with AED, Oxygen Administration and First Aid.
- Must be 16 years of age before the first day of class
- Must be able to pass the following Physical Competency Requirements (conducted on the first day of class)
- Sprint for a distance, then pick up an object from the bottom of the pool. Swim the remaining length, and hoist yourself out of the water. Finally, immediately begin compression on an adult mannequin.
To receive Lifeguard Certification a participant must:
* Candidates unable to perform all the skills necessary to receive certification by the last day of the class will be granted a conditional certification. It is up to the student to schedule a retest with the instructor within 30 days
