      Under the supervision of the District Executive Director and Operations Director and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA, the District Aquatics Director is responsible for monitoring program quality and safety, development of new programs, program retention, mentoring aquatic staff, effective delivery of aquatic training as well as increasing our internal aquatic trainer roster. 


      This individual will be responsible for administration/program development and direct leadership of the C.B. Pennington Jr. YMCA and Paula G. Manship YMCA aquatic programs & facilities. The incumbent will exemplify YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility in everything they do.


      Essential Job Functions:


      ·         Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in written documents with staff, volunteers and community leaders and collaborators.

      ·         Ensure that branch aquatic facilities and off-site facilities meet requirements; guidelines and association polices/procedures related to the YMCA expectations as well as state and local health codes.

      ·         Directly responsible for risk management programs as it relates to the aquatic facilities to assure a safe and healthy environment for all program participants.

      ·         Accepts and directs complaints or concerns to appropriate branch personnel.

      ·         Be available for assistance to branches for any area concerning aquatics, aquatic safety, program, staffing, legal issues or training.

      ·         Hire all aquatic staff including lifeguards, swim instructors, water exercise instructors and Aquatic Coordinator as needed.

      ·         Routinely clean and sanitize facilities, equipment and supplies.

      ·         All other miscellaneous duties assigned by Supervisor.

       

      Qualifications:


      ·         Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

      ·         Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in aquatics.

      ·         Must be able to supervise, train, inspire and motivate colleagues, volunteers and participants.

      ·         Must have current YMCA Lifeguard certification, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Emergency Oxygen Administration and Standard First Aid Certification.

      ·         YMCA Swim Instructor, POOL, YAM, Lifeguard Instructor and Water Fitness Instructor preferred

      ·         Must have strong communication, organization, presentation and marketing skills.

       

      Salary:

      $45,000-$50,000/year

    • Summer Camp Counselor

      The YMCA of the Capital Area is looking for Summer Day Camp Counselors at multiple locations! The Summer Day Camp Counselor is responsible in assisting with the supervision of the day camp participants. Counselors will also facilitate the recreational and educational activities of youth campers ranging in age from 4-13 years. 


      Must be at least 16 years old and able to work Monday-Friday for the months of April through August.  Starting at $12/hour.
