SWIM LESSONS

At the Y, we teach youth, teens, and adults to swim, so they can stay safe around water and learn the skills they need to make swimming a lifelong pursuit for staying healthy.Y swim instructors are nationally certified in CPR, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration. Swim lessons provide important life skills that could save a life and will benefit students for a lifetime.

Swimming Lessons

Learn to swim with the organization that started group swimming lessons...the Y! The Y offers swimming lessons for anyone ages 6 months of age and older. The YMCA Swim Lessons Curriculum is a core group of swimming skills every person needs to learn how to swim.  

There are several different categories of Y Swim Lessons:

SWIM STARTERS SWIMMING LESSONS

Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention and the importance of supervision.

A / Water Discovery
Introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment.

B / Water Exploration
Focuses on exploring body positions, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety and aquatic skills.

SWIM BASICS SWIMMING LESSONS 

In Water Acclimation, Water Movement and Water Stamina, students are taught the recommended skills for all to have around water including safe water habits, underwater exploration and how to swim to safety and exit in the event of falling into a body of water.  

1 / Water Acclimation
In this beginning class, children develop comfort with being underwater and learn how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

2 / Water Movement
In this class, children are taught skills that focus on buoyancy and movement in the water while also learning how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water. 

3 / Water Stamina
In this class, children focus on swimming longer distances. In the event of falling into a body of water, children learn how to swim to safety.

SWIM STROKES SWIMMING LESSONS 

In Stroke Introduction, Stroke Development and Stroke Mechanics, swimmers are introduced to the four competitive swimming strokes, as well as rescue skills and healthy lifestyle habits. 

4 / Stroke Introduction
  
In this class, children are introduced to basic swimming strokes.

5 / Stroke Development
In this class, children continue to work on their swimming stroke technique and all major competitive strokes are introduced.

 6 / Stroke Mechanics
In this class, children continue to work on their swimming stroke technique and all major competitive strokes are introduced. 

SPECIALTY CLASSES SWIMMING LESSONS

Private Swimming Lessons (3 & Up)
Private swimming lessons are 30 minutes in length. Private lessons are taught one on one with the instructor. 

Family Swimming Lessons
Four 45 minute swimming lessons for a family of four. Extra fee for each additional family member.

Terrific Turtles Inclusive Swimming Lesson Program
Customized swimming lessons for children and adults with disabilities.
