YOUTH AND GOVERNMENT

YMCA Youth in Government is a national program of the Y that involves thousands of teens nationwide in state-organized, model-government programs. The YMCA Louisiana Youth & Government program is organized for high school students throughout the State of Louisiana. Since 1962, the YMCA Louisiana Youth & Government program has offered the Youth Legislature conference to future leaders.

Youth Legislature and Model United Nations include formal debates, committee meetings, reports on the fate of bills and proposals and election of new officers. Social activities include banquets and dances.

This particular program promotes the tenet of social responsibility by allowing high school students to be civically engaged in a mock government setting. LA Youth and Government hosts two conferences annually, Model United Nations and Youth Legislature.

The mission of the YMCA Youth & Government program is two-fold:

  • To encourage and foster leadership through service, fellowship, responsibility, and respect for oneself and others among all participants, and

  • To educate and engage students in the process of government from local to national to international so that they become more active participants in their communities.

“Amazing service and a great experience overall.”
