YMCA of the Capital Area Newsletter - Y Connection
September 2018
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, obesity affects one in six children, and one in three are overweight, which poses greater risks for many health problems such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and even cancer.
The YMCA of the Capital Area is helping families improve their health and potentially reduce the impact of childhood obesity through programs such as youth sports, kid fit and wellness initiatives such as Healthy Family Home.
All branches will be open until 1:00 P.M. except for Baranco-Clark YMCA, that location will be closed. We hope everyone has a healthy and safe holiday.
YMCA youth sports are a great way to keep your children active, improve their social and teamwork skills, and help them develop friendships. Be sure to sign your child up for volleyball and tackle football by September 25. Click here to register now!
Join us for our FREE Open House on September 12 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. to celebrate National Day of Encouragement. We will have activities throughout the day designed to get everyone moving toward a happier, healthier life with the people who matter the most. Think of this as a day to get motivated and re-engaged with yourself and your lifestyle. Grab a friend and join us!
Did you know one in three families struggle to afford diapers? With very few direct governmental assistance opportunities available for diapers, the Y has partnered with the Junior League of Baton Rouge Diaper Bank to encourage Y members to donate unused disposable diapers to any of our nine locations during September 24 - 30. All donations stay in the community and will truly make an impact for Baton Rouge families that often have to make the decision between groceries and diapers .Click here for more information.
With a focus on healthy living, the Y offers a variety of classes to motivate, encourage and support healthy lifestyles. We invite you to join us as we film promotional videos of our group exercise classes! Wear a Y shirt and a smile. Click here for locations and classes we will be filming.
