YMCA Expands Service Area

by Kristen Hogan | Aug 09, 2021

Baton Rouge, La (August 6, 2021) – The YMCA of the Capital Area has received approval from the national YMCA to expand its service area to include Hammond, Denham Springs, Walker, Gonzales, Prairieville, and Lake Charles. The Y currently serves the Greater Baton Rouge area and the surrounding communities through seven YMCA locations.

This approval was received following the Ys completion of a state profile and approval from other YMCAs across Louisiana. This approval is the first step in the Ys capability to provide services to areas that need YMCA programs. The Y looks forward to providing support for youth, adults, families, and seniors by continuing to address the objectives of its Strategic Plan.  Those objectives include ensuring that youth in Y programs demonstrate improvement in the skills needed for successful living; helping individuals achieve their health and well-being goals by partnering with stakeholders; and that diverse, underserved communities feel supported by the Y.   All of these goals are accomplished through established volunteer networks, partnerships, and community support.

“What the Y does best is bring people together and build community, we look forward to the opportunities to provide services to additional communities within our state.” said Christian Engle, YMCA of the Capital Area, President/CEO. At the Y, we seek to protect and nurture all those we serve, helping them reach their full potential, improve their health and well-being, and to support social change that will unite all people.
