Member Engagement/Social Media Specialist (Full-time, Exempt)

Under the direction of the Marketing Director and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA, the Member Engagement/Social Media Specialist works collaboratively with the marketing department and membership teams to provide members and participants with the best experience through detailed analysis and communication.  He/she will also be responsible for growing the Y’s social media presence to help drive positive membership experience connection and engagement, program registrations, retention, member satisfaction and increase community awareness of impact.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the Y as well as on the phone, email, and online communication, contributing to member retention.
  • Engages with members and community through outlets that may include promotional campaigns and initiatives as well as managing social media.
  • Leads assigned special events or member engagement services hosted at the YMCA.
  • Uses excellent communication skills during phone calls and tours to understand prospects’ needs and creates interest in Y membership.
  • Initiates welcome calls to new members to follow up on membership and to encourage the scheduling of FitPath appointments.
  • Follows up on cancelled members to begin prospecting them for future potential membership.
  • Lead content ideation: follow through on creation of written content and delivery across social media, blog, local media, and various written outlets as needed.
  • Work in partnership with the marketing department to develop strategic plans and creative direction for weekly and monthly content.
  • Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects and meet time sensitive deadlines.
  • Deepen community engagement by identifying and sharing stories of members and program participants on social media, the Y website, newsletter, and blog.
  • Raise visibility and understanding of the Y’s positive community impact-specifically related to youth development, social responsibility, and healthy living.
  • Develop overall organic social media strategy on Instagram, 7 Facebook pages, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
  • Ideate, plan, schedule, and publish the day-to-day social media postings.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media, business, or related field preferred.
  • Experience and deep understanding in working with social media management and reporting platforms. (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn)
  • Experience with content creating.
  • Deep understanding of how to inspire action through storytelling.
  • Clear communicator with professional and exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt written voice quickly with feedback, coaching, and editing.
  • An eye for great photography and ability to write impactful statements, call-to-action copy that is appropriate for social media.
  • Proven ability to engage, connect, and build an audience across multiple channels.
  • Must possess knowledge of technology and how to apply it to digital marketing.
  • Must be an analytical, strategic thinker with the desire to innovate; articulates a future vision for the digital space.
  • Highly developed organizational skills.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required; Personify software experience a plus.
  • Must be a self-initiator.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of
    the community.
