Within the available resources of the organization, the YMCA of the Capital Area will provide services to any youth, senior, adult or family who understands the benefits of the Y and desires to participate in Y programs, regardless of their ability to pay the full membership and/or program fee.
Those not able to pay the full fee may be awarded partial financial assistance based on their demonstrated need and the ability to fund the subsidy.
YMCA of the Capital Area's financial assistance program is supported by contributions to our Annual Community Support Campaign.
Financial assistance is granted on the basis of demonstrated financial need resulting from low income, emergency expenses, or other circumstances which inhibit an individual’s ability to pay the full fee.
The Y believes that a strong sense of ownership and pride is developed if the financial assistance recipient contributes to the cost of the Y's involvement. Therefore, the maximum financial assistance award available is 80 percent.
Financial assistance is determined based on a thorough review of the application and all supporting documentation, and a personal interview with the applicant. The Y utilizes a sliding scale based on the Poverty Guidelines for the 48 Contiguous States and D.C. (Number of Family Members and Poverty Level Income Threshold by Size and Family) to determine an applicants acceptability.
The Y is able to grant financial assistance only to the extent of funds available. The Y reserves the right to refuse assistance to any applicant.
Applications are available online or at any Y location.
Proof of income must be submitted with an application in order for the application to be processed.
YMCA program directors collect and review the applications. Applications are then submitted to a Branch Executive for final approval.
A financial assistance award notification is provided to the applicant within two weeks.
The percent awarded is good for one year from the date recieved. Financial assistance scholarship awards are made by YMCA professional staff only. All awards will be based on the Y's guidelines.
All applications and supporting documents are kept confidential in a secured location. Information provided is used for no other purpose than to assess your scholarship needs.
Only YMCA professional staff members will have access to your records. This includes the branch program director(s), branch executive director and association financial development director.
